Why did our baby Elijah Slavkovic have to die? | News.com.au
Too often doctors discard parents and patient information and concerns, making irreversible mistakes such as this one.
Arrogance?Ignorance?Lack of training?
This type of errors occur more often than we think, some we will never know.
A few years ago, a women was miss diagnosed not once but twice. The first time with head and neck cancer, the second despite her history and obvious symptoms of lung cancer.
Ignored by several doctors time and time again, until desperate she went to the emergency hospital and was finally diagnosed appropriately and operated, giving her a few more years with her family. If her diagnosis was delayed a little longer she would not have that opportunity.
After so many mistakes her doctor told her that no other doctor will touch her, and often it is the case when mistakes are made, they do not like to be involved and are not sympathetic.
How many more cases like this one are happening and not been reported?
This type of incidents is often covered up by the doctors, the patients too sick to fight back. It is very scary for a dying patient needing care to complain, and take the risk of being black listed by doctors when they most need them.
Many people will not believe that such incredible stories do happen and go unpunished, but believe me they do.
